Lock Haven trips D&E in double OT

Lock Haven claimed a 1-0 double-overtime win against Davis & Elkins College Wednesday in West Virginia Conference action at Harpertown Field.

The game remained tied after 90 minutes of regulation and after 10 minutes of the first overtime.

Lock Haven (1-2-1) finally cracked the deadlock when a Davis & Elkins defender accidently pushed the ball past goalkeeper Tim O'Toole just 2:38 into the second overtime.

Lock Haven outshot the Senators 7-3 in the contest and held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.

O'Toole had six saves in goal for the Senators. Chris Custer had three stops for Lock Haven.

Davis & Elkins will travel to Lake Erie College on Saturday.

High School Golf

PHILIPPI - The Philip Barbour High School golf team finished third Wednesday at the Barbour County Country Club.

Grafton won the match with a 171, followed by Robert C. Byrd (178) and Philip Barbour.

Jonathan Gladysz shot a 40 to earn low-medalist honors for the Eagles.

Philip Barbour was led by Josiah Laulis with a 41. Tyler Gordon (44), Justin Thorne (47), Isaiah Simon (49), Parker Kines (49) and Zach Summerfield (63) followed.

Philip Barbour will travel to Lewis County Thursday.

LC?Falls

BRIDGEPORT - Chris Gates fired a 1-under par round of 35 to claim medalist honors and lead Bridgeport to a win over Lewis County Wednesday at the Bridgeport Country Club.

Bridgeport turned in a team total of 151, and Lewis County carded a 188 day.

Jean Michael Bunner led the Minutemen golfers with a round of 43, followed by Ryan Boyle, 47; Thomas Snyder, 49; Thomas Law, 49; Adam Jeffries, 53; and D. Pethel, 59.

The Minutemen return to the golf course today, hosting Philip Barbour and Grafton.

Freshman Football

University 20, EHS?14

MORGANTOWN - University defeated Elkins 20-14 Wednesday night in freshman football action.

Andrew Torres had a 57-yard punt return for a touchdown to lead the Tigers (1-1). He also finished with six carries for 20 yards.

Chance Poling followed with 22 yards, while Silas Gibson was 3-of-7 through the air for 25 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers. Sean Cain had two catches for 21 yards and a score.

Cain had eight tackles, while Poling followed with six tackles for the Tigers' defense. Nick Martin and Josh Isenhart added five tackles each..

Elkins will travel to East Fairmont Wednesday.

Middle School Football

EMS 34, Philippi 0

PHILIPPI - Trevor Kiess had two rushing touchdowns and a two-point conversion to lead Elkins past Philippi 34-0 Wednesday night in middle school football action at George Byrer Field.

Tanner Boatwright and Garrett Riggleman had one rushing touchdown each for the Hornets (1-1).

Nathan Bennett also added a rushing score for Elkins.

Tyler Pifer had 13 tackles, while Jack Daniels added eight stops for the Hornets.

Elkins will host Petersburg next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
