D&E too much for UPJ; EHS’ Propst wins NCAC crown

Bediako Swan scored two goals to lead Davis & Elkins past Pitt-Johnstown 3-0 Wednesday in West Virginia Conference action at Harpertown Field.

Justin Logan added the other goal for the Senators (10-3, 8-1 WVIAC), while Brett Keatley had two assists as the hosts built a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Elvis Hedji also had an assist for Davis & Elkins, who outshot UPJ 19-10 in the contest. The Senators held an 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Tim O'Toole had three keeper saves for D&E, while Craig Neff had seven for UPJ (5-9-1, 3-4-1).

"I felt neither team played well today," said Davis & Elkins coach Greg Myers. "With the field conditions as bad as they were, neither team could do what they wanted to do. We just got some breaks and were able to get the ball in the back of the net."

Davis & Elkins will host East Stroudsburg Saturday at 2 p.m.

Women

California (Pa.) 1, Davis & Elkins 0

CALIFORNIA Pa. - California defeated Davis &?Elkins 1-0 Wednesday in non-conference action.

Amanda Heister had the lone goal, while Darija Davidson had an assists for Cal (11-3-1).

The Lady Vulcans outshot Davis & Elkins 19-8 in the contest and held an 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Jackie Krum had five saves in goal for the Lady Senators (10-3).

Paula Jackson had five stops for California.

Davis & Elkins will host Mountain Sate on Saturday starting at Noon.

High School Cross Country

FAIRMONT?- Elkins High School's Letitia Propst captured the NCAC championship Wednesday at the Apple Valley Course.

Propst finished first with a time of 19:53 to lead Elkins to an eight place finish.

Other finishers for the Lady Tigers were: Shannon Salisburg (27th, 22:43), Lea Fedder (46th, 24:48), Tenny DeMarco?(48th, 25:21), Rachel Burky (49th, 25:55), Karissa Stell (50th, 26:08) and Ashley Simmons (52nd, 28:08).

Ben Proudfoot placed 12th overall with a time of 18:28 to lead the Tigers to a fifth place finish.

Other finishers for Elkins include: Dylan Lewis (16th, 18:55), Zack Burnside (18th, 19:00), James White (33rd, 20:12), Karal Smakula (35th, 20:15), Nate Simons (37th, 20:22) and Brandon Robinson (43rd, 21:05).

Elkins will host the Class AAA, Region II finals on Oct. 22.

Middle School Cross Country

WEST?UNION?-The Elkins Middle School boys cross country placed first Tuesday at a Doddridge County Invitational.

The Hornets finished with a score of 96, while Suncrest 166.

Elkins was led by Austin Hamrick (14th), followed by Remington Knight (15th), Chris Bodkin (22nd), Dalton Bobes (25th), Mason Schoonover (26th), Matt Wallace (47th) and Adam Haddix (56th).

The Lady Hornets placed fourth with Kathlynne Simmons leading the way in 19th, She was followed by Monica Rossi (23rd), Olivia DeVille (37th), Haley Truman (41st), Shahi Swecker (44th), Meshae Rowan (67th) and Haley Harper (78th).
