Randolph County CEOS clubs host fall meeting

The Randolph County Community Educational Outreach Service convened for its 2009 fall meeting Sept. 24 at Camp Pioneer. Thirty-one CEOS members, 10 guests and County Extension Agent Ronnie Helmondollar attended the annual assembly.

Each CEOS club in the county was responsible for some segment of the meeting. Registration was conducted by Upper Valley, name tags were designed and printed by Dailey-Valley Bend, flag presentation and invocation were given by Elkins Learners, door prizes were distributed by Beverly, table decorations and favors were provided by Kerens, Helvetia arranged the entertainment and meeting evaluations were collected by Hazelwood.

The Randolph County 4-H Teen Leaders served the evening's dinner fare of ham, potatoes, green beans, hot rolls and pumpkin pie.

Entertainment was provided by folk dancers, yodelers and flag swingers from Helvetia. The performers included three CEOS members from the Helvetia club as well as members of the Helvetia Sunshine 4-H Club and musicians Joe McInroy and Woody Higginbotham.

A ceremony was conducted by Charlotte Zimmerman in memory of Randolph County CEOS members who passed away in 2009. They included Dorothy Nine, Kerens club; Millie Siler, a 50-year member of the Dailey-Valley Bend club; and Cathy Mailloux, Helvetia club.

During a short business meeting, Past President Sandra Godwin installed officers for the upcoming year. Serving in 2010 are Barbara Douglas, president; Alberta Higgins, vice president; Anna Kay Ratliff, secretary; and Charlotte Zimmerman, treasurer.

Achievement Award nominees from Beverly, Elkins Learners, Helvetia and Kerens clubs respectively were Elizabeth Hayes, Alberta Higgins, Judith Gray and Mary Anger. The 2009 Randolph County Achievement Award Recipient was Alberta Higgins, who received the 2009 Randolph County 4-H Camp Pioneer Second Edition basket.

On display throughout the evening, was the quilt top for the 74th Mountain State Forest Festival as well as posters from various CEOS clubs promoting the 2009 theme "Keep It Simple."
