An Elkins man is charged with six counts of animal cruelty after six puppies in poor health were found in his residence at 17 Davis Ave.
On Oct. 29, Elkins Police Patrolman W.L. Lewis assisted Humane Officer James Cain with the removal of the puppies, which belonged to Christopher Knotts, 25.
According to the complaint, the puppies were covered in feces and their stomachs were bloated. A local veterinarian examined the puppies and determined the animals were malnourished, dehydrated and their feet were scalded and peeling because they had been standing in urine and stool. The veterinarian concluded the problems could have been prevented had the puppies been provided food, water, a clean environment and proper worming.
