Brownies help homeless animals

November 30, 2009

Brownie Girl Scout Troop 5057 of Beverly will give the animals of the Randolph County Humane Society a nice Christmas this year.

As part of their community service project and requirement to earn the Caring and Sharing and Animals Try-It, the Girl Scouts donated needed items from the RCHS Wish List.

The troop collected more than 100 pounds of dog and cat food, treats, towels, leashes, etc., to give to the shelter this Christmas.

At their November meeting, the troop made dog and cat picture frames to give to family and friends and hosted a guest speaker, Jamie Swecker, vet tech from the Animal Care Center in Elkins. Swecker spoke about how to become a vet tech, job responsibilities and taking care of a pet.

The surprise "guest" was an adopted dog, Rebel. The lab/retriever mix was adopted from the RCHS in September by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kenney.
