The Upshur County Board of Education has scheduled registration for kindergarten and Pre-K students for the 2010-2011 school year. Registration for all Upshur County Schools will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 28; and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at the National Guard Armory in Tennerton.
Children enrolling in Kindergarten must be born on or before Aug. 31, 2005, and need to accompany their parents to the armory for registration. School personnel will be present to conduct required screenings at that time.
Parents should bring a copy of their child's record of immunization. Kindergarten children are required to be immunized for diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HIB, privnar and varicella. Students will not be permitted to enter school in the fall without the required immunizations, unless they are properly exempted in accordance with state law. It will take about one hour to complete the registration process.
Parents are required to bring a certified copy of their child's birth certificate. A certified copy of the birth certificate is one issued by the Bureau of Vital Registration of the child's state of birth. The address for West Virginia is: Vital Registration Office, Room 165, 350 Capitol St., Charleston, W.Va., 25301-3701. Order forms are available at the schools and Board of Education office. The fee charged by the state of West Virginia is $12. If you do not have the certified copy, bring other proof of birth to the registration until your certified copy has been issued by the state.
To register for Pre-K, parents need to come to the armory Jan. 28 or 29, as well. Pre-K children will also need to accompany their parent to registration. Current immunizations are required for all Pre-K children and will be reviewed at the time of registration. Pre-K children are required to be immunized for diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, varicella, HIB and privnar. Some health screening for Pre-K children will be performed at the Armory and the remaining health screening will be performed after school begins in the fall.
Parents are asked to pay close attention to the following information regarding the Pre-K program and registration.
n Pre-K is an optional program for children who will be 4 years old prior to Sept. 1, 2010, unless they have been diagnosed as pre-school special needs children
Upshur County Schools is not required to provide transportation for Pre-K children, but Upshur County Schools will attempt to provide transportation if the child is attending a center that is served by a bus that passes the child's home
Parents who wish for their child to attend one of the Head Start sites will be asked to fill out an additional income form to assure proper qualification. There will be some slots at the Head Start sites that are not income based.
All sites operate from Mondays through Thursdays, during normal school hours
Parents wishing to have before and/or after school child care services will need to pay for this service if it is available
