Every student at Highland Adventist School is enrolled in an art class this year. With the help of local artists, the school's art program has become a favorite among students. "There is evidence that involvement with the arts contributes to student gains in math and reading as well as improving motivation and teamwork," Principal Cheryl Jacko said. "For a small school, we are fortunate to have such a strong art program." Leslie Henderson, a local artist and parent of a HAS student, provides art instruction for students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade on a weekly basis. She has enlisted the help of other area artists, such as Maggie Rhudy, in teaching the elementary and middle school students. Becca Jacko teaches high school art and has led the students in a variety of creative art experiences. At top left, Rhudy teaches a class in paper cutting art; bottom left, Henderson teaches art to students in grades K-8; and bottom right, Becca Jacko works with high school art student Katherine Lewandowski.
