Bruce Barilla, an employee of The Greenbrier and a graduate of the University of Illinois, has filed to challenge U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall in the May 11 Democratic Primary.
Barilla said it is wrong for Rahall to support Barack Obama for president when the then-Senator of Illinois said, "So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."
According to Barilla, "A press conference should have been held by our elected state and federal representatives to defend coal rather than support someone who opposes our way of life and American free enterprise. Character and integrity should have outweighed political affiliation."
