Julia R. Stevenson of Elkins will seek re-election to five Democratic executive committees of which she has been a member for several years. The committees are: State Democratic Executive Committee, Elkins District of Randolph County Democratic Executive Committee, 2nd District Congressional District Executive Committee, 15th District Senatorial District Executive Committee and 37th District Executive Committee.
While there are no salaries nor attendance/travel expenses paid, Stevenson said she has been politically and actively involved practically since she was eligible to vote. She continues to be active, is in touch with officers and members of the State Executive Committee and maintains a good relationship with her constituents.
Stevenson said she shares suggestions and opinions. She keeps informed of community and political activities.
Born and educated through high school in Coalton, she graduated from West Virginia Business College in Clarksburg. Some of her past jobs have included traveling claim supervisor for Connecticut General Life Insurance, Hartford, Conn.; accountant and credit manager for a new and used automobile agency; medical stenographer; and administrative assistant to a former secretary of state and also a former treasurer of state. As a liaison for senior citizens for the Consumer Protection Division of the office of state Attorney General Darrell McGraw in her present job, she has traveled to most of the senior centers and their satellites throughout the state making presentations on identity theft, fraudulent schemes/scams, consumer rights and problems. She has assisted many, many people, with an emphasis on seniors, who have either been the victims or who were unable to receive help with their problems.
She is a member of Saint Brendan Catholic Church of Elkins, the mother of two, grandmother of two and great-grandmother of one.
Stevenson is senior vice president of the Auxiliary to Roaring Creek Post 5583, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary to Post 29 and a member of the Auxiliary to the Vietnam Veterans Chapter.
"If elected, I will continue to be active, attend meetings and to listen to all suggestions. I thoroughly enjoy being involved. I appreciate the confidence you have placed in me in the past and will certainly be grateful for your continued support and vote," Stevenson said.
