Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Childress will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday with an an open house hosted by their children from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the lounge adjacent to the Hillbilly Grill on Stonecoal Road in Buckhannon. Light refreshments will be provided.

On March 26, 1960, Gerald and Jean Childress of French Creek were united in marriage at Aliquippa, Pa., by the Rev. Franz O. Christopher. Witnesses for the wedding were Darreld and Shirley Casto, Mr. Childress' niece and third cousin. Charley Pritt, brother-in-law of Mr. Childress, provided still photography coverage as well as 8mm camera coverage.

The bride was attired in a spring green street-length suit, white netted hat and white shoes. She carried a white Bible presented by her parents. The corsage was of white orchids and carnations. A small reception followed at the couple's new home at 512 Pine St. in Ambridge.
The wedding cake was baked and decorated by the Castoes' landlady.
Mr. Childress is the son of the late William and Reta (Martin) Childress.
Mrs. Childress is the daughter of the late Herman and Leatha (Hartley) Echter.
They have five children, Teresa and her husband, John Ward, Leatha and her husband, Rodney Irvin, Brenda Rabourn, Jerry and his wife, Carol Childress, and Lynda and her husband, Scott Bishop, 14 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren. One stepgrandson is deceased.
Mr. Childress is retired from Moore Business Forms and was formerly employed by Greenleaf Trucking and Dravo Corp.
Mrs. Childress is a retired RN from Stonewall Jackson Hospital and the former owner of Mountain Mist Nursing Home.
