Cash prizes were awarded as winners were announced at the opening reception for the West Virginia Women in the Arts Exhibit at the Randolph County Community Arts Center. The exhibit will be open weekdays through Aug. 18.
The Best of Show prize was presented to Lorna Vincent Venter for her ceramic titled "Internal Maternal."
First place went to Georgia Tambasis for her mixed media drawing/painting "Love Nest."
Laurie Goldstein-Warren received second place for her watercolor "Bass Man."
Third place went to Grey Darden for her watercolor titled "Evening on the River."
The Helena Thacker Award was presented to Lauri Lydy Reidmiller for her silk painting "Symmetry I (diptych)."
Honorable mention was awarded to Liza Brenner for her oil and latex on panel titled "Wish List"; to Jan Heath for her monoprints "Garden Goddess" and "One Small World" and her linocut "Like a Tree"; and to Lynn Payne for her oil on canvas painting titled "Sun Lady."
Honorable mention was also awarded to Enrica McMillon for her needle felted wool works titled "Fiddler" and "Beauty Lessens Burdens"; to Ruth Blackwell Rogers for both of her acrylic on canvas works, titled "Stream Enterers - Radiant" and "Stream Enterers - Glide"; and to Terry Lively for her oil painting "Stamus Contra Malum/We Stand Against Evil."
Juror Chica Brunsvold, an acclaimed artist from Falls Church, Virginia, selected the winners. Following the opening reception, Brunsvold presented a slideshow of her work and a watercolor demonstration.
A solo exhibit by artist Lisbet Okun will be on display in the Maxwell Room at the RCCAC concurrent with the West Virginia Women in the Arts Exhibit. Platinum sponsors for the West Virginia Women in the Arts Exhibit include Women's Health Care/Davis Memorial Hospital, Drs. Joel and Terry Hummer, Yvonne Marson, the RCCAC board of directors in memory of Helena Thacker, Dr. Victor and Mary T. Thacker, Christy Tribble/Professional Accounting Services and Cecelia W.
