With winter snows already blanketing much of the Mountain State and four ski resorts nearby, many of the young - and young at heart - are gearing up for the season.
Dr. P.J. Zickefoose, DDS, had an engaging personality and a passion for the sport of skiing. He used both to motivate and challenge local youth to enjoy the great outdoors and resources available to them. On Dec. 27, 2003, at the age of 32, P.J. died in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 219 near Elkins. His parents, Paul and Barbara Lewis Zickefoose, of Elkins, along with memorial donations from friends and family, established an endowed fund to honor his memory.
The P.J. Zickefoose Fund awards annual grants to Randolph and Tucker County school officials on alternate years to support skiing activities for youth who otherwise could not afford to participate in the sport.
Those who would like to contribute to the Zickefoose, or any other endowed fund, may send a donation to the Tucker Community Foundation. Checks should be made payable to TCF - the name of the endowed fund and mailed to: Tucker Community Foundation, P.O. Box 491, Parsons, West Virginia 26287.
