West Virginia Family Leadership First, a statewide group that supports and encourages families to speak for themselves and others, will host its 17th annual Families Conference April 8-10 at Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center.
Some topics that will be offered at the conference will include: Abuse in the family; caregivers; record keeping for families; nature walk; IEPs; what to do when kids move out and parents move in; transitioning; improving relationships with your family; scams; fatherhood; healthy lifestyles; legislative/how to get involved/be an advocate; invisible disabilities; how to find and access programs; stress management; not in our town; and early childhood programs, among others.
Workshops for teens will include teen depression; IEPs for teens; transitioning; substance abuse; art project; bullying; Upward Bound; siblings with disabilities; and social networking safety.
Families who attend the conference are accepted from the applications received from all across the state. All meals, lodging, child care and conference materials are paid for and participants receive a gas stipend at the close of the event. The deadline to apply is Feb. 28.
