Country Roads Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation to begin services in April

One of the region's premier physical therapy and rehabilitation firms is expanding its operation to include Upshur and surrounding counties beginning April 4.

Country Roads Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation LLC already has two successful locations in Fairmont to serve residents in the Marion County area. Now Country Roads is branching out with a Buckhannon office that will serve patients from Lewis County along the I-79 Corridor through Randolph and Barbour counties.

The Country Roads office will be just off U.S. 33 at the Buckhannon exit, in a plaza adjacent to Walmart.

"We're extremely excited about starting the next chapter in our company's life," said co-owner Michael Barkley. "We're committed to providing quality physical therapy and rehabilitative care with a hands-on, manual therapy focus. We look forward to sharing our skills with new patients in an expanded geographic area."

The two will be the primary therapists at the new location.

Barkley, a doctor of physical therapy, and Derek Falkenstein, a physical therapist, opened their first location on June 5, 2006, sharing space with what is now Fairmont Fitness.

As the business grew and market changed, a new facility was built at 1509 Fairmont Ave., allowing for expanded growth for the businesses as well as providing a state-of-the-art rehabilitation clinic for the needs of Marion County residents.

As word spread of the excellent treatment patients were receiving, a second location was opened to serve the East Side of Fairmont.

"Both facilities are growing and expanding as demand for quality care increases," said Barkley, who has an undergraduate degree from Fairmont State University and master's and doctoral degrees from Wheeling Jesuit University. "The natural progression for us was to add new counties to our service area."

Falkenstein, a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and West Virginia University, stressed one thing that won't change is the commitment of the entire staff to Country Roads' mission and values.

"Country Roads Physical Therapy makes every effort to provide the highest quality outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation services," Falkenstein said. "Through hometown service and a 'hands-on' approach, we improve the quality of life for all our patients."

Among the core values of staff throughout the Country Roads organization are a commitment to individualized care, progressive treatment, compassion, dignity, professionalism, personal development, professional independence and community involvement.

In addition to Barkley and Falkenstein, Country Roads currently has four physical therapists and two physical therapist assistants.

Sara Lantz, DPT, ATC, graduated from Alderson-Broaddus College in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in athletic training, and is a certified athletic trainer. In 2009, she received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Wheeling Jesuit University and immediately began employment at Country Roads Physical Therapy.

Bobby Oliverio, DPT, graduated from West Virginia University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in biology. In 2010, he received a Doctor of Physical Therapy from West Virginia University. Oliverio was born and raised in Bridgeport and has a special interest in outpatient physical therapy.

Jill Finley, MPT, grew up in North Pole, Alaska. She made her way to West Virginia to study physical education at Fairmont State University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1999. She went on to West Virginia University and obtained her master's degree in physical therapy in 2005. Since then she has been employed in both inpatient and outpatient therapy settings.

Jeanette Shannon, PT, graduated from West Virginia University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy.

She brings 17 years of experience to Country Roads Physical Therapy, including expertise in both pediatrics and geriatrics. She enjoys working with a wide variety of age groups and different diagnoses and has spent time in a number of different clinical settings.

Andrew McQuaid, PTA, began his employment with Country Roads in 2008. He obtained a physical therapist assistant degree from Pierpont Community and Technical College. McQuaid chose the field of physical therapy due to a personal experience in which he had a chance to view therapy from the patient's perspective.

Kenny Statler, PTA, has been a part of the Country Roads team since November 2008. He is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania and a licensed physical therapist assistant in the state of West Virginia. His desire to pursue physical therapy started while working as a transport aide in a rehabilitation hospital.

CFO Monica Falkenstein coordinates the business aspects of Country Roads. Additional staff members include Stacy Sine, West Fairmont office manager; Traci Cotton, East Fairmont office manager; Ashley Bartholow, East Side office assistant; Jessica Long, West Side office assistant; and Charlee Fox and Anna Starkey, office assistants.
