Tucker County students will host an art show and reception from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Davis Community Center to showcase about 100 pieces of art from local schools.
Admission is free, but donations to assist with future projects will be accepted.
Tucker County Schools receive little or no funding for art supplies, officials said. This show helps students and community supporters raise much-needed funds.
Robert Robinson, a retired art educator and currently an active member of the West Virginia Art Education Association, will judge the students' art. A total of 14 students will receive cash prizes for their pieces of art and 26 ribbons will be awarded. Area individuals and businesses donated the cash prizes.
"Tucker County businesses have been generous in sponsoring prizes for the STArt 2011 Student Art Show," said Gerri Wilson of WVHighlands Artisan Group. "Individuals throughout the community have responded enthusiastically to this opportunity to recognize student achievements in art."
Some of the art displayed by the students will be for sale, with 10 percent of proceeds benefiting the Tucker County Arts Department. Light refreshments and snacks will be served.
After Sunday's event, some of the artwork will be displayed at Tucker County businesses.
