Calvin T. "Buzz" and Brenda J. Bennett will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their children from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. May 28 at Landmark Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
They were married on May 27, 1961, at Otterbein United Methodist Church by the late Rev. Donald Lockhart.
They have five children, Calvin Ted Bennett and Peggy of Beverly, Terri Lawrence and Rick of Dryfork, Lisa Crawford and Dennis of Elkins, Rita Howell and Eddie of Norton and Chad Bennett and Feronda of Norton.

They also have 12 grandchildren, Eric Bennett, Brenda Pritt, Amanda Hanson, Ashley Mullenax, Matthew Lawrence, Wesley and Caleb Crawford, Ryan and Allison Howell, Chad, Alicia and Kelsey Bennett and seven great-grandchildren, Kara and Luke Bennett and Brandon Elmore, Ethan Scott, Isaac and Ava Rose Mullenax, Harlow Hanson, Alyssa Lawrence and are expecting another grandson, Braxden Pritt, in June.
Mr. Bennett is the son of Virginia Pingley Bennett and the late Ralph Ted Bennett of Norton. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1961; retired in 1995 from Bethlehem Steel Mines after 29 years; then retired in 2010 after 12 years with Elkins Distributing. He also worked for Ricottilli Rail Fencing in Ellamore, construction at Stoney River Dam, Building and Trades Union, mechanic for Craig Ford of Elkins, truck driver for Ross Trucking of Norton and Bowers Coal Co.
Mrs. Bennett is the daughter of the late Jacob Denver and Elizabeth Coberly Tingler. She started her career in education as the first secretary for Norton Grade School. She worked as a teaching assistant for 18 years at North Elementary School. She retired in January 2007 after 29 years working for Randolph County Schools.
They enjoy many hobbies and interests such as beekeeping, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends. They are members of Landmark Baptist Church.
