Preparations for the Treasure Mountain Festival parade are in full gear and invitations have been mailed. However, the time of traffic shutdown must be shortened, and therefore, radical change for the improvement of and a timely running of the festivities is necessary, organizers said.
There will be increased security presence at the staging site for vehicle and crowd control. All parade entries must be registered by 2:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and all parade participants must be at the staging area by 2:30 p.m. All late registrations and participants will be turned away.
Full changes have been made in all categories and those have been mailed to the interested parties. The following is a sample of changes:
- All floats must enter the staging area via Turnpike Road across from Fireside Cafe and only small finishing detail may be done at the staging area.
- Twirletts age 5 and younger may not walk in the parade, but instead must ride.
- All floats must follow the theme "Revival of our Past" and may not have any kind of advertising on it. Only the name of sponsor and name of float may be displayed.
- All antique vehicles must be model year 1979 or earlier and be as close to original as today's replacement parts allow. No lift kits, jacked up, low-riders, loud pipes (mufflers), excess chrome or added features will be permitted in the parade. The Treasure Mountain Festival parade chairperson has the authority to reject a vehicle for entry into the parade.
With a special election in October, all political candidates are welcome. However, the only thing allowed on the side of the vehicle is their name, and it is strongly urged they follow the 1979 and earlier vehicle rule.
For parade participants there will be no alcohol consumption before or during the parade. Also all participants wanting to participate in the 2011 parade must get a parade number from the registration table before the parade begins.
