Church organizations plan Trick or Treat event

July 30, 2011

Editor:

The Elkins Area Church Women United and Randolph County Ministerial Association would like to inform the community that they are working on having a Trick or Treat for UNICEF collection drive this fall.

UNICEF has a 60-year tradition of kids helping kids to make a life saving difference in the lives of children around the world. It doesn't take much to save children's lives, and through UNICEF we can make a difference.

With our help, UNICEF can do the following:

- 7 cents provides 50 kids with safe water for a day

-$2 buys one liter of therapeutic milk

- $19 buys three mosquito nets to protect kids from malaria

- $257 provides an emergency classroom kit for 40 kids

- $500 buys a water pump for a whole community.

Every day, thousands of children die from causes that are totally preventable because they don't have access to clean, safe water, basic medical attention, sufficient nutrition or immunizations that can protect them against deadly diseases.

If anyone is interested in helping with this UNICEF campaign, please join us on Aug. 8 at 3 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 302 First Street. All churches are welcome and encouraged to participate, and make a difference in the children's lives around the world.
