Dr. Waid McMillion, a native of Lewisburg, has joined Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital as the emergency department director.
His family practice residency was performed at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
He is married to Katrina Hamrick of Williamsburg. The couple has two daughters, Morgan, 17, and Kya, 10.
McMillion said his path into medicine was guided by an older cousin.
"I love taking care of people and sort of 'happened' into it," he explained. "My cousin was a D.O. (doctor of osteopathy) and he led me into this career path. He is eight years older than I and has a family practice in Lewisburg. My older sister, Lisa Kessler, is also a D.O."
McMillion said he is looking forward to the opportunity of working at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital.
"This will be a new patient base for me and with that comes new challenges. What I like is that you have a stable crew of physicians here who really understand their patients," he said.
In his spare time, McMillion enjoys hunting, fishing, golf and coaching softball.
