What a revolting development last week turned out to be, not only for the doctor, but also for the Tucker County High School football team.
Here at the clinic, the good doctor had a sad 4-of-6 right picks and we all know that is not Elmo's style, while on the other hand, the Mountain Lions were officially eliminated from playoff consideration. It was not known at that time, but the Tucker gang would not have made it if in fact they had beaten Philip Barbour, and this is not to say that the Colts did indeed deserve the win, but Tucker also came up short on bonus points, so the players of Tucker need not feel ashamed as they gave it the old school try but came up short.
Let's not forget the boys from Buckhannon, who closed out with a two-game winning streak.
"OK, that's enough about the past because at Dr. Elmo's clinic, we deal only in the future and boy do I have a lot of future games. Yes, this week there will be 48 teams going into battle and I, the good doctor, will tell you the names of the 24 who will get on the bus and head for home.
So lets get with it.
No. 16 PARKERSBURG CATHOLIC 6-4 at No. 1 WHEELING CENTRAL 9-1: There is no comparison between these two Catholic schools as far as tough schedule are concerned so I'll say Central will take it by 28 points.
No. 9 MOOREFIELD 7-3 at No. 8 CLAY BATTELLE 9-1: Two years ago, Clay Battelle went into the first round seeded as number eight and a record the same as this year and Tucker who had the same record as Moorefield gave the higher seed a good old-fashion whooping and I see it to be the same this time. In a mild upset, watch the Yellowjacket advance to the second round by 14 points.
No. 13 BISHOP DONAHUE 7-3 at No. 4 WIRT COUNTY 8-2: Here's a tough one to call but I'll call it a 6 point Wirt win but it could actually be the upset of the first round.
No. 12 BUFFALO 7-3 at No. 5 EAST HARDY: 9 - 0 Another one where the lower ranked team played a much stronger schedule, but I'd get run out of Hardy county if I said anything other than a Cougar 8-point victory. No. 15 MADONNA 6-4 at No. 2 WILLIAMSTOWN 10-0: This one might be close, but I don't see it as any closer than a Williamstown 10- point victory.
No. 10 MEADOW BRIDGE 7-3 at VALLEY (FAYETTE): Valley to advance with this 11-point win. No. 14 POCAHONTAS COUNTY 7-3 at No. 3 WAHAMA 10-0: Wahama only played two West Virginia schools and ar undefeated, and they will remain that way after this 38-point win.
No. 11 VAN 7-3 at No. 6 FAYETTEVILLE 8-2: I'll take the favorite by 11 markers.
No. 16 RITCHIE COUNTY 6-4 at No. 1 POINT PLEASANT COUNTY 10-0: Pleasant will win by 18.
No. 9 OAK GLEN 9-1 at No. 8 ROANE COUNTY 8-2: Here's another number nine whipping a number eight. Oak Glen by 6 No. 13 CHAPMANVILLE 7-3 at No. 4 LINCOLN 9-1: I can't see this one any different that a big upset. Chapmanville by 14.
No. 12 BRAXTON COUNTY 7-3 at No. 5 GREENBRIER WEST 9-1: I like the Greenbrier, but I've got a hunch that this will be a big upset also. Braxton County by two points. No. 15 SCOTT 6-1 at No. 2 SHADY SPRINGS 10-0: Short and sweet, Shady Springs by 32.
No. 10 RIVER VIEW 8-2 at No. 7 RAVENSWOOD 8-2: River View by 9.
No. 14 KEYSER 6-4 at No. 3 WESTSIDE 9-1: It appears that the Golden Tornado is out of their league. Westside by 28.
No. 11 GRAFTON 7-3 at No. 6 WAYNE 8-2: I see it as a Wayne 10-point victory.
No. 16 BECKLEY 5-5 at No. 1 MARTINSBURG 10-0: Mismatch of the year. The Bulldogs by 38 and maybe more.
No. 9 PARKERSBURG 7-3 at No. 8 HUNTINGTON 7-3: Here we go again with a nine-seed beating an eight. Parkersburg by 6. No. 13 PARKERSBURG SOUTH 6-4 at No. 4 LOGAN 8-2: Make this one Logan by 6,
No. 12 MUSSELMAN 7-3 at No. 5 MORGANTOWN 8-2: Morgantown to make sauce out of the Applemen by 10.
No. 15 ROBERT C. BYRD 6-4 at No. 2 BRIDGEPORT 10-0: Just a short cross-town trip for Byrd so they can hurry home and lick their wounds from this 24-point loss to the Indians.
No. 13 WHEELING PARK 7-3 at No. 7 CABELL MIDLAND 7-3: I'll take the Wheeling team in a 7-point upset.
No. 14 SPRING VALLEY 6-4 at No. 3 GEORGE WASHINGTON 10-0: GW by 35.
And last but not least. No. 11 HURRICANE 7-3 at No. 6 ELKINS 8-2: Things will be jumping Saturday in Buckhannon when Coach Hott's squad takes on a Hurricane. It's been some time since the Tigers have been to the big dance but I see them ready for the challenge. I see "the eye of the tiger" taking on the "eye of the hurricane" and the Tigers getting an 8-point win.
MORE ASK DR. ELMO
Q: I jog every day and I continue to gain weight, what should I do?
A: Try jogging backward and see it that helps!
Q: Why don't cannibals eat clowns?
A: Because they taste funny!
Q: Why do they call evenings "after dark"?
A: This is a tough one, even for me, because it isn't after dark, it's after daylight! Q: If I have a clear conscience what does that mean?
A: It means that you have a bad memory!
That's about it for this week's games, so I'll be seeing you next week. "bye, bye"!
