It's Thanksgiving weekend and a lot of turkey eating and shopping are going on right now.
Let's imagine for a moment that it's Thanksgiving Day, you are ready to eat dinner and when you come to the table all you find is a turkey. No stuffing, vegetables or bread - nothing but a nicely cooked turkey sitting in the middle of the table. That would be rather odd.
The turkey alone would taste great and be appreciated, but without all the trimmings it just wouldn't be right. I would consider giving a picture without a frame the same thing. A picture is a nice gift, but a frame makes it really special.
A nice frame can turn an ordinary snapshot into a work of art; and face the facts, if you get a picture as a gift without a frame, it is going into "the drawer"? You know the one - the drawer in every house where pictures without frames go to wait for someday. "Someday I'll pick up a frame for that," you say.
Everyone knows that you can pick up a cheap frame anywhere, throw the picture in it and your gift is complete. You can also buy a frozen turkey TV dinner and call it your Thanksgiving meal, but it won't go over nearly as well as something you took some time to prepare.
Let me enlighten you to the gift of custom framing. Custom framing involves going to your local frame shop and picking out the type of molding and matting that will complement your photograph. Elkins has several great frame shops including my business Foto 1. You can choose from literally hundreds of molding profiles and color combinations to complement your artwork or your decor.
If that sounds like too much work, don't worry your local framing professional will be more than happy to help you choose or even do it for you if you don't have the time or artistic inclination. Custom framing sounds expensive, but it doesn't have to be. Professional framers often have options to help you stay within your budget. Custom framing also is one of those gifts that do take some time. Each framing job has to be done individually and good frame shops are often backed up with work especially at the holidays, so don't wait until the last minute.
Someday is now people. Free those trapped memories from "the drawer" and frame those pictures. You still have time to make the perfect gift for someone you care about.
