New Christmas trees on display at Adaland Mansion

November 26, 2011
The Inter-Mountain

Whimsical and elegant describe Adaland Mansion's two new Christmas trees, decorated especially for holiday visitors to Philippi's 1870 restored historical mansion according to Sharon Harsh, Adaland's executive director, and Ann Serafin, Adaland's retiring executive director who headed up this year's decorating team.

The first tree to greet visitors upon approaching the house is the 2011 Adaland Pavilion Tree, the Winter Avian Mansion Tree. Perched on the outdoor pavilion, this tree celebrates the many feathered friends that call Adaland home. Because birds are natural recyclers, this tree's decorations have been lovingly crafted from a variety of recycled items.

Children particularly will enjoy determining the origins of the many decorative items hanging from the Pavilion Tree's boughs. Additionally, parents can use this tree as a teaching moment with their children via a Parent/Children Discussion Guide available at the Mansion. The guide poses questions about language, math, the environment and other subject matters.

The 2011 Adaland Pavilion Tree theme is Winter Avian Mansion. The tree celebrates the ‘feathered friends that call Adaland home.’

The second tree newly decorated is the purple-themed tree in the second floor Bride's Room. Shades of purple grace this elegant tree from its topper of tulle, a fabric originating in the French city of Tulle and a fabric frequently used in bridal gowns, to its sparkling purple tree balls and lilac poinsettia bracts. White pearl garland and twinkling lights finish the elegant Bride's Room tree.

These and other trees and the extensive Christmas decorations throughout the house make Adaland Mansion a favorite place to visit over the holidays.

Guests have a full calendar of events to attend this 2011 holiday season. The Christmas Open House is Dec. 3, a perfect accompaniment to Philippi Main Street's Christmas Craft Show taking place in the Philippi City Building Basement. Christmas buffet dinners are Dec. 4 and 18. A special Christmas Tea is Dec. 10. and a Candlelight Tour of Adaland is scheduled Dec. 21. The traditional New Year's Eve Buffet Dinner along with its new menu will close out the holiday season at Philippi's restored mansion.

For details and reservations about all the holiday events, anyone interested can call 304-457-1587, 304-457-2415 or 304-823-2456 or visit www.adaland.org.
