W.Va. well represented

December 10, 2011
The Inter-Mountain

Editor:

I was so very proud to see Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., on "Face the Nation," and I agree that the United States must wind down our role in Iraq and Afghanistan to rebuild America.

But even he has the foresight that America must still remain strong and ready militarily. We cannot turn our backs on West Virginians in the armed forces who have defended our freedom. The U.S. must replace aging Cold War fighters with the F-35 jet fighter, for example, to preserve U.S. air superiority through mid-century. With a potential nuclear threat from Iran, I am confident Sen. Manchin will not let our service veterans down.
