Canaan celebrates 40 years

Canaan Valley Resort is celebrating 40 years of skiing this season with lodging, skiing and food discounts along with a bevy of winter sports activities.

The ski area is set to open Saturday and will promote the Toys for Tots Program all weekend. Guests who bring an unwrapped new toy valued at $10 or more to the ski area will receive a lift ticket for $10.

"The ski area is 40 years old, and we invite you and your family to celebrate with us and others who love winter sports," said David Bostic, general manager of Canaan Valley Resort.

The resort offers downhill skiing and snowboarding on 91 acres with a vertical drop of 850 feet and the longest run at 6,000 feet. The resort also offers airboarding (snow body boarding), snow tubing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and a full-size ice skating rink. Night skiing and night snow tubing are available on Friday and Saturday evenings. The resort also offers a complete line of gear rentals.
