With the new year come renewed resolutions to lose weight and exercise to stay healthy. The Elkins Randolph County YMCA and Total Training Fitness Center are both feeling the results of those convictions this week.
Tammie Elza, owner of Total Training Fitness Center, said she is putting together some new and different classes for members.
"Our six-week body makeover class offers attendees great results," Elza said. "I am looking to develop some classes where people can gain strength while losing weight and toning up."
Elza said half of the battle is getting up off the couch and coming through the door to exercise.
"You do not need to be self-conscious when you come to work out," Elza said. "Lots of folks want to lose weight or tone up, and this is the place to reach that goal."
Registration clerks at the Elkins Randolph County YMCA said their phones were ringing all day Monday with questions about memberships and weightloss tips, as well as requests for information about the PEIA weight-management program.
"People have also inquired about personal training," Lola Spotloe said. "We are happy to have a new program for personal training led by Kumar Lambert, a certified personal trainer."
Spotloe said the YMCA also is adding a full-body "boot camp" class, social dancing and more yoga classes.
"We have 13 classes on Monday nights," Spotloe said. "We offer many great classes, and everyone should be able to find a class they like that will help them achieve their goals."
Elkins High School senior Brennan Dettinger said he enjoys coming to the YMCA.
"I like to come in and lift weights," Dettinger said. "I play sports, so I like to keep fit and come often to the YMCA."
Lauren Cain said she made a new year's resolution to live healthier.
"I am at the YMCA to work out, hoping to get and stay healthy," Cain said. "I am also going to try to eat healthier in the new year."
