Anyone interested in learning about how to snowshoe can check out a range of clinics set this Saturday at White Grass Ski Touring Center in Canaan Valley.
There will be clinics on types of snowshoes, clothing, basic techniques and outdoor winter snow travel. Those who'd like to participate should meet at White Grass Lodge at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Afterward, they can test their skills with a free natural history tour on snowshoes to nearby Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. Snowshoes will be provided by White Grass. Participants should wear warm, comfortable walking shoes/boots and dress for the weather.
The walk is co-sponsored by Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, White Grass and Friends of the 500th, the refuge's citizen support group.
This program kicks off a series of seasonal offerings, which will provide short walks with talks to the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge from White Grass. A full listing of programs is available at www.fws.gov/canaanvalley, www.whitegrass.com or 304-866-4114.
