It's almost that time of year again when we have our yearly Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs Expo at Elkins High School.
This year, our expo will be March 24 and 25. We have all been working really hard to get it to come together and we think everyone will enjoy it.
It's about trying to keep the kids aware of things to do other than drugs, and let them know of so many different fun outdoor opportunities there are. We need the community to support in helping make the weekend a success. Our expo is fun for the whole family. Each year there are thousands of children and parents who attend the expo to learn of all the ways they stay healthy and have a healthy lifestyle.
There are many vendors with different items. Each year we try and get more people to come and share their ideas with the kids and show them different ideas. We have some great activities for the kids to try out. We have a fishing and hunting game where the kids can catch a fish or do some big game hunting on a TV. The kids love this. We give out 1,000 fishing poles to kids every year. When hand a child a fishing pole and they are so excited, it makes you feel really good.
We have a silent auction with so many different items.
We could not do this without the people of our community. It takes a lot of people to make this happen and a lot of hard work, but in the end it is worth it seeing the kids smiling and running around the gym with their faces painted.
It is not just for the children. It's also for the parents. We welcome everyone and hope you have a great weekend.
We wish to thank Davis Health System, Art Medium, Health Facilities Inc., All-American Pre-Owned Auto, Mountaineer Chapter of Izaak Walton League, Mike Ross Inc., Davis Memorial Hospital medical staff, and Ann Bartlett.
To all of the many volunteers, without you we would be at a loss. It's because of you that we are able to have such a great weekend.
We are always looking for vendors. Anyone who would like to set up at the expo should call Robin Miller at 304-636-3532.
