Philippi Main Street calls for local artists

February 20, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Philippi Main Street will sponsor its second Art Stroll for the community from 5 to 8 p.m. April 26 throughout downtown.

"Because we had such a positive reaction to our first Art Stroll last summer, we want to offer this event again to Philippi," Philippi Main Street Director Tammy Stemple said in a news release.

Committee members are currently calling for local artists who want to exhibit their works. Any interested artist can contact Stemple at 304-457-3700, ext. 226, or Karen Larry, Art Stroll volunteer, at 304-457-3773 for details. There is no registration fee for artists to exhibit.

Strollers enjoy the art work of Sarah Ferguson’s art students during the 2011 Art Stroll.

Besides calling for artists, Main Street also is asking downtown businesses to host exhibits. It anticipates many of the same businesses that hosted the Art Stroll last year to again serve as exhibit sites and organizers are in the process of lining up both those and additional exhibit sites. Local business owners also can call Stemple or Larry to offer their locations as exhibit sites.

"We plan to top last year's 200 plus strollers this year," Stemple said. "We thank the public school system for its involvement again this year and look forward to engaging many more artists."
