Jessica Spruill, a 2011 Alderson-Broaddus graduate, will host a writing workshop and a reading on Thursday. It will take place in the Humanities Division Lounge, room 206, in Withers-Brandon on the college's campus.
The workshop will begin at noon Thursday and the reading at 6:30 p.m. Both the workshop and the reading are free and open to the public.
Spruill graduated from Alderson-Broaddus in the spring of 2011, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in creative writing. She is from Philippi, and she hopes to become a full-time writer. She also would be happy to become a poetry and creative writing professor at the college level.
The writing style of Spruill is greatly influenced by her rural upbringing and country setting. In the 2011 A-B Writers competition, Spruill received four awards, including first prize for her poem "Swing Sonnet."
More information regarding the workshop or the reading is available by contacting Professor Carol Del Col at 304-457-6301 or delcolcs@ab.edu.
