Rose Meadows will celebrate her 101st birthday on Sunday, March 11.
She is the daughter of the late James Garfield "Jimmy" and Inez Marie Duckworth Stalnaker, and is the third born of 11 children.
She married Fonse Meadows, and the couple had three children, Richard and Gary "Sonny" Meadows of Florida, and Susan Meadows Dillon, who is deceased.
Mrs. Meadows moved from Cadiz to Elkins for a few years to spend time with her extended family, and now resides in Mulberry, Fla., where she attends church each Sunday and walks a mile every day.
She is affectionately called "Lady Rose" by friends at her church. As a well-known antique dealer, buyers often asked her advice on items such as glassware and paintings in her shop she maintained for nearly 40 years. Patrons were often invited into her home to see the variety of Victorian furniture she collected.
While living in Ohio, she truly enjoyed serving as the county schools' cafeteria manager for 16 years, and was regularly requested as the caterer for area mining companies. Not only did she prepare full-course meals in her kitchen, but transported them and served them family-style each day. Her most requested creations are coconut cream pie and cheese cake.
Birthday greetings can be sent to: 4185 Davis Road, Mulberry, FL 33860.
