New coach handed the reins at Philip Barbour

PHILIPPI?- New head coach Angel McCullough is hoping Philip Barbour can rebound from a disappointing 2011 campaign this season.

This will be McCullough's first high school coaching job for softball. She takes over from Missy Kaiser, who stepped down after last season.

McCullough's has been an assistant coach for the Philip Barbour girls soccer team the past five seasons.

She is excited to be the new softball coach at Philip Barbour.

"I'm happy to have the opportunity to take over the softball program," McCullough said. "I want to help turn this program around."

The Lady Colts will return three starters from last season's team.

Leading the way is second baseman Danielle McDowell.

Junior first baseman Nikki Knotts and junior pitcher Miranda Meanear are also back.

Two newcomers expected to contribute are freshman Faith Cline and junior Emily Anglin.

The Lady Colts will open the season March 22 at home against the Minutemaids of Lewis County.
