Community pride is ever-present throughout our area. Still, we don't take for granted the good deeds someone does for their town.
This week, Parsons City Council learned that Councilman David Gidley has plans to donate a jon boat to the city. The craft will be buffed, water-proofed and ready for use when it's presented.
This donation is more than an act of kindness. It's helping to fulfill a need. As a councilman, Gidley knows the boat will be valuable for making repairs and doing maintenance at the city's water and sewer treatment facilities. The city's current ship, with a colorful name, has capsized multiple times in the treatment lagoon, sending city workers into unclean water.
Gidley's generosity doesn't stop there though. He also donates his Council salary back to the Parsons ON TRAC committee. This committee, no doubt with the help of Gidley's salary, has been able to organize events like the winter fair and send members to training events that further Parsons down the road to becoming a Main Street Community.
It's this type of commitment that brings a big beaming smile and makes us thankful to live here among people who exhibit such a caring spirit.
