Free tire cleanup coming to Tucker County

May 15, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Tucker County will offer a free tire cleanup day to help reduce the spread of disease from infected mosquitoes. The mosquito population can be reduced by eliminating standing water in tires.

Old tires can be disposed of free at the cleanup day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the following locations: Tucker County Landfill on Route 32 in Thomas; and the maintenance building at the end of Walnut Street in Parsons. Tires up to 17 inches, on or off the rim, will be accepted, no equipment tires. Only West Virginia residents with a West Virginia driver's license may dispose of up to 10 tires.

More information is available by calling Mike Park of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection at 304-940-0258.

The event is sponsored by the West Virginia DEP, Tucker County Solid Waste Authority, Tucker County Commissioners and Tucker County Health Department.
