This Sunday, Upshur County Relay For Life will host its third annual golf tournament at Riverbend Golf Course.
There are two flights, so everyone has a chance to come out and take a swing to find a cure for cancer. The morning flight starts at 9:30 a.m., with registration at 9 a.m. The afternoon flight begins at 1:30 p.m., with registration at 1 p.m. Walker Redd's will cater lunch at 12:30 p.m. for all participants.
Support from community businesses and volunteers have made the last two tournaments a great success, and the same is expected for this year. Prizes will be awarded.
Since Relay For Life began in Upshur County in 1998, the hardworking volunteers and local businesses have raised and/or donated more than $1.5 million.
As a state, just last year the 60 Relay events in West Virginia raised $3.2 million. This puts West Virginia in the No. 1 spot in fundraising in the South Atlantic Division, and No. 4 in the country. These are monumental accomplishments.
West Virginia volunteers and staff received the Mission Values Award for the South Atlantic division as well, thanks to the work volunteers and staff do to promote the mission of the American Cancer Society.
More information about the golf tournament, ways to donate to Relay For Life or how to volunteer is available by contacting Heather Ogden at 304-472-7181.
Upshur County Relay For Life is scheduled for July 27. Announcements and sponsorships are set to begin at 6 p.m., opening ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the Survivor Lap is set for 7 p.m.
