Upshur Commission promotes map law

June 11, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

The Upshur County Commission is reminding county residents that it is the responsibility of property owners to display the physical address assigned to their structure in accordance with the Upshur County Addressing and Mapping Project. To assist both emergency service personnel and the general public, the address must be visible and maintained.

Since the completion of the project in March 2009, approximately 2,200 physical addresses have been released and are being used by county residents.

The United States Postal Service has begun the process of changing mailing addresses for county residents.

While the USPS has requirements for displaying an address for mail delivery, the Upshur County Commission has separate requirements for displaying the physical address assigned to a structure for 911 purposes.

For questions or additional information, call the Office of the Upshur County Commission at 304-472-1673.
