Granddaughter suffers heartache from shooting

June 15, 2012

Editor:

I can only imagine why a senseless action on June 6 transpired on the road in front of our home in Alpena.

I can only imagine how proud the person who shot my granddaughter's golden retriever is of their marksmanship.

I can only imagine how pleased that person would be to hear the plaintive calls for "Dixie" by my granddaughter late that night and nearly all day the next day.

I can only imagine the satisfaction that person would derive from creating the mystery; where can "Dixie" be? And, the hours of fruitless searching.

I can only imagine how satisfied that person would be to hear the sobs of my granddaughter when Dixie was found two days later shot to death in the meadow across from our home.

I can only imagine how amused that person would be to see the grief their act generated in our entire family.

I can only imagine that the person responsible believes in carrying a loaded rifle in their vehicle.

I can only imagine that the person believes it is perfectly all right to shoot from a car or truck on a public highway.

I can only imagine that the person responsible is a non-thinking, salivating supporter of the 2nd Amendment.

I too believe in the right to own guns, but I believe in the personal responsibility that goes with that right.

Now, I can only imagine that the person who shot my granddaughter's golden retriever Dixie will read this, if they can read. Otherwise, if someone who may know what happened that Wednesday afternoon reads this, please share it with the shooter.
