The Mountaineer Chapter of IWLA offers two free youth events for children in our area - Air Rifle Shooting Event and Youth Conservation Day. These events are made possible by grants from NRA, funding from the West Virginia State Division of IWLA, National IWLA Endowment board and the Mountaineer Chapter.

These events were organized by Jay Winn, Don Thomason and Bruce Evans to introduce the great outdoors to kids and even give some the opportunity for their first hands-on experience with guns and sometimes even a fishing pole. In order to prepare for these events, a lot of individuals donate their time, special skills and hard work to help share in the day of fun and excitement.

The chapter's fourth annual Air Rifle Shooting Event was held in May at their clubhouse property on Files Creek Road in Beverly. This year, the children from West Virginia Children's Home accepted an invitation from the chapter to attend our event and they had a blast. They also spent the morning helping chapter members catch fish for the chapter's fish fry. We would like to thank all that attended our event, Mountaineer Chapter members, Tygart Valley Muzzleloaders Club for the use of their shooting range and a special thanks to the children from the Children's Home for coming up and sharing the day with us.

Our Youth Conservation Day will be Aug. 11 at the clubhouse property and is one of our free events for children ages 8 to17.

Take the time to get your child off the couch and help them enjoy the great outdoors, you would be surprised what you would see.
