100th birthday

Delphia Hilton Tenney Mason celebrated her 100th birthday on June 19.

Born in the rural village of Tallmansville in Upshur County, Mason is the daughter of Samuel Tenney and Nora Anne Butcher Tenney.

She attended school in Upshur County and graduated during the Great Depression. She went on to work as a receptionist and nurse for Dr. Brown, a coal company physician in Wendell.

She married Lemuel Reynolds Mason Jr. in 1936 at the First Methodist Church in Buckhannon. Mr. Mason attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and went on to become a Methodist minister. The couple had a son, John Allen, and two daughters, Jan and Joy Kathryn. Mrs. Mason also has eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She has been a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and has shared her faith in God through conversation, teaching and living a Christian life.

Her family and friends hosted a birthday celebration in her honor at St. Joseph's Hospital on June 16.
