Murder Mystery Dinner coming to Adaland Mansion

August 1, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

One of Adaland Mansion's most popular summer events will return to the outdoor stage on Adaland's side yard pavilion Aug. 10 and 11.

West Virginia storyteller, actress and playwright Karen Vuranch will direct her audience-participation play, "Murder Served Family Style," which is guaranteed to delight local audiences.

The event will feature a staged murder, a time for interrogation from the audience and an opportunity for the audience to guess the murderer. Those new to this event will find a hilarious and entertaining murder mystery, a perfect summer evening's amusement.

Returning and new guests alike also will enjoy one of Adaland's summer buffets at 6 p.m., prior to the play. A special menu for the murder mystery dinner theater event will include two entrees, baked chicken with dressing for both nights and baked steak in a gravy sauce Friday and baked ham and raisin sauce Saturday evening. As always, Adaland's well-known cook, Lucy Williamson, also will set the buffet table with a variety of summer vegetables including roasted and parsley potatoes, noodles with cabbage, green beans, steamed corn and carrots and mixed vegetables. Salads, homemade rolls and bread and a selection of homemade pies, cakes and cobbler along with Adaland's signature peach iced tea will complete the summer evening buffet.

"Our seats, both indoor and outside on the pavilion, are filling up fast. We want guests to know they need to call soon for reservations," Executive Director Ann Serafin said.

Adult reservations for the dinner and theater package are $40 and children's seats are $10. For reservations, anyone interested can call 304-457-2415 or 304-457-1587.

Adaland is located near Philippi in Barbour County. More information about Adaland is available at
