Camp Horseshoe to host Basket Days in September

August 7, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Anyone interested in learning how to make baskets is welcome to sign up for Basket Days, set for Sept. 14 and 15 at Camp Horseshoe in Tucker County.

Joni Neubert will once again be the instructor. She will demonstrate how to weave a 6-by-10-inch north country tote with a 21-inch-high braided hoop handle on Sept. 14. The cost will be $45. On Sept. 15, the class will make a 12-inch round basket. The cost will be $39.

The baskets are heavy duty and can be used for numerous chores at home or to carry with pride to covered-dish dinners, sewing/knitting retreats, picnics, etc. Each day will begin at 9:30 a.m., and a one-day option is available.

Neubert is a one-of-a-kind instructor and knows all the ins and outs of constructing baskets. She is a master weaver and president of the local Weavers Guild. She will make sure participants have a great time while learning this art form.

YMCA Camp Horseshoe is located near Leadmine in Tucker County. More details are available by calling 304-478-2481 or 304-478-2899, or logging on to www.hi-y.org.
