The West Virginia University football teams landed a highly regarded running back prospect on Wednesday.
The Mountaineers received a verbal commitment from Wendell Smallwood, who also had offers from Auburn, Rutgers and Boston College.
Smallwood scored 14 touchdowns last season at Eastern Christian Academy in Maryland.
The 5-11, 200-pound running back is said to be blessed with both speed and power. He has been clocked at 4.40 in the 40-yard dash.
Smallwood is the Mountaineers' 12th commitment for the 2013 class.
His high school teammate, wide receiver Daikiel Shorts, gave a verbal commitment to West Virginia last week.
Smallwood is the second talented running back to commit to the Mountaineers with WVU already landing DeShawn Coleman last month.
