Piano talents showcased

Local students take part in festival at A-B College

Pupils of Randolph County teacher Eloise Federer participated in the annual Piano Auditions and Piano Festival sponsored recently by the West Virginia Music Teachers Association at Alderson-Broaddus College.

Adjudicators were Dr. James Miltenberger, professor of music, and Dr. Peter Amstutz, professor of piano and coordinator of keyboard studies at West Virginia University.

Pupils performing solos and ratings received included Liam Purkey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Purkey, superior plus and superior minus; Lydia Mace, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rich Mace of Philippi, superior plus and superior; Farha Khan, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Farukh Khan, superior; Preston Marsh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Marsh, superior; Mekenzie Carpenter, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Jamie Carpenter of Belington, superior; and the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. David Engelkemier, Alex, superior and superior minus, and Amy, superior.

For their duet performances, both Carpenter and Purkey received superior.

Additional piano festival appearance included the solo by Aodhan Minney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Minney; and the duets by Purkey with Minney and Carpenter with Purkey.

Trophies for participation were awarded to Khan, Purkey, Carpenter, Minney, Amy Engelkemier and Alex Engelkemier.
