The Elkins High School girls soccer team is hoping for another strong season as it returns a strong nucleus from last year's 11-3-5 squad.
The Lady Tigers will open the 2012 campaign today at home against Martinsburg at 5 p.m.
Elkins' season came to end last year when it lost to Bridgeport in the sectional semifinals.

Isabella Nieves is one of several key players returning for the Lady Tigers this season. Elkins will open its 2012 campaign today at home against Martinsburg. The contest is scheduled for 5 p.m.
"I'm excited with who we return from last season," Elkins coach Scott Cutright said. "We've got a good group this year, especially with some younger kids."
Elkins returns two seniors in Brianna Swecker and Sarah Cooper.
Swecker will be leading the defense this season, while Cooper will see time at the midfield spot for Elkins.
"Brianna and Sarah are going to have to be team leaders for us this season," Cutright said. "And I really think they will do that."
The Lady Tigers also return three juniors with varsity experience - Charlie George, Isabella Nieves and Kayla Gainer.
George will be the Lady Tigers' goal keeper, while Nieves returns as a forward. Gainer will see time in the midfield for Elkins.
"We've got a lot of freshmen and sophomores who will get significant playing time this year," Cutright said. "They're going to have to get use to playing at the varsity level. Everyone has been doing pretty well in practice."

Thomas Cain, Jacob Schoonover and Jonathan Gainer are the three seniors returning for EHS?this season.
Cain and Gainer will be in the midfield, while Schoonover will see time at forward for the Tigers.
"We're going to need our three seniors to show leadership this year and lead our team," Elkins coach Andy Montgomery said. "They're going to have to help lead our offense this season, especially."
Junior Cord Elmer returns to his midfield position for Elkins
"We're going to need Cord to have a good season for us," Montgomery said. "He had a good year last season and hopefully it will carry over."
Juniors Ryan Henson, Mason Schoonover and Linkoln Barger also return after lettering last year.
Schoonover and Barger will see time in the midfield. Henson will be a defender.
"We are learning to play together, but the preseason has show a lot of promise," Montgomery said. "We are a much younger squad than previous years, but we should have a level of consistency to make us competitive with our entire schedule."
Elkins' non-conference opponents this season include" Martinsburg, Musselman, Hampshire, George Washington, Philip Barbour, Washington, Morgantown and Hedgesville.
