Roger James Meadows Sr., 62, a resident of the Mt. Zion community, St. George, and a resident of Pasadena, Md., departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 15, 2012, in Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born Tuesday, Aug. 30, 1949, in Buchanan County, Va., a son of Eula Cook Meadows, who survives, and the late Rev. Hubert Meadows.
On June 2, 1973, at Pasadena, Md., he was married to the former Sylvia G. Poling, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Roger Meadows Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Florida, Timothy Meadows and wife, Christine, of Md., and Vernon Lipscomb and wife, Trish, of Maryland; three daughters, Alicia Haynes and husband, Larry, of England, Donna Puckett and husband, David, of Maryland, and Julie Pitkanen and husband, Tim, of Maryland; two sisters, Joan Craig of South Carolina, and Sheila Rankin and husband, Wallace "Pete,"of Virginia; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, 10 nieces and 14 nephews.
He attended Glen Burnie High School in Maryland. He worked for the Carr Lowery Glass Co. in Baltimore, Md., as a machinist, and he retired in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his unique sense of humor, and he was a charming man.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons today from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Carolyn Shreve will officiate and interment will follow in Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George.
