A joint dinner of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 29 in Elkins was served Aug. 14, after which the auxiliary members retired to their meeting room.
Connie Bailey, president, called the meeting to order, and Shirley Perry, chaplain, gave the opening prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Katrina Meyers, sergeant-at-arms, followed by the reading of the preamble. Members then joined in singing "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Previous meeting minutes were read and approved, and Jessie Marsh, secretary/treasurer, gave the treasurer's report and filed for audit.
Delores Wilson gave a report on the history of the formation of the Pledge of Allegiance and the proper way of performing it.
Perry suggested that members each furnish a prayer to contribute to a prayer book. Loretta Dawson and her daughter-in-law plan to visit as many of the local schools in the area as possible.
Bailey reported officers were installed at the 3rd District Conference. Bailey was elected vice president for the next two years. She also announced a district workshop set for the third weekend of September at the Days Inn in Bridgeport.
Motions were made and approved to make donations to the activity funds of both Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon and the Veteran's Home in Clarksburg.
Dues for 2013 are being accepted, and several members responded. After the closing prayers, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is set to take place Sept. 13.
