August 29, 2012
By Beth Christian Broschart - Staff Writer , The Inter-Mountain

Kristen McGill has been dancing since she was 3, and she has always wanted to open her own studio.

Axis Training, located on the Beverly Five-lane across from Rich Oil, is McGill's dream come true, offering tumbling and dance in one location, centered on the community.

McGill and business associate Justin Tanner are thrilled to be offering this new business in the Elkins area.

Axis Training, located on the Beverly Five-lane across from Rich Oil, offers dance classes, tumbling classes and Zumba. Owner Kristen McGill leads participants in Zumba at this new location. Axis is celebrating its grand opening and is taking class reservations for classes.

"We are already having Zumba classes at the new location," McGill said. "We have just finished putting down carpet and hardwood floors. We are waiting for our mats to arrive to get them installed as well."

Axis Training will offer all-star cheerleading, stunt groups, karate, yoga, pilates, kickboxing, tumbling, tap, clogging, jazz, hip hop, ballet, modern, lyrical, pointe, Zumba and Zumba atomic for children.

"We also want to offer dance for middle- and high-school-aged men to help with sports," McGill said. "And I am also available to do choreography for high school and middle school cheerleaders."

McGill and Tanner hope the studio will be a community gathering spot where children attend classes in a safe atmosphere.

"We want the kids to feel comfortable and offer them activities," McGill said. "This will keep kids centered on healthy, safe activities rather than getting into problem situation."

Tanner said he has some other items he would like to see at Axis Training.

"If the community will allow and promote the idea, I would like to have batting cages where athletes can practice," Tanner said. "This would be beneficial to high school, middle school and little league players."

Another feature Axis Training will offer is Zumba merchandise.

"People taking Zumba classes want to feel comfortable, and the Zumba brand clothes really help," Tanner said. "People will have the opportunity to feel the clothes and try them on before purchasing them."

McGill, who is certified in dance, Zumba, cheerleading and safety, said she is glad for the experience of working at other studios, and is excited for the opportunity to bring her ideas to the community through Axis Training.
