The Davis & Elkins College women's soccer team returns an experienced group from last year's 12-6-1 squad.

The Lady Senators open the 2012 season on Friday when they travel to Ohio to battle Cedarville University.

Davis & Elkins returns most of its defense from last year as seniors Allison Dant, Yanery Hidalgo, Ashley Kodluk, Victoria Gustitis and sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Winkelspecht are all back.

Davis & Elkins College’s Sarah Fyock looks to get past a defender in action last season. The Lady Senators open the 2012 campaign Friday at Cedarville University.

"We're very excited that we return most of our defense from last year," Davis & Elkins coach Raul Ovalle said. "It's a big plus for us and I think its one of our strong points entering the season."

Also returning is senior midfielder Breanna Eskew, along with junior midfielders Alison Bogar, Katlin McDade and Kristin Turschmann.

Elkins native Maggie Fry, Kristen Turschmann and Taylor Morton are all battling for playing in the midfield.

"Maggie, Kristen and Taylor have all had a great summer practices," Ovalle said. "Maggie should start for us."

Senior Sarah Fyock and sophomore Emma Davis both return at the forward spots for Davis & Elkins.

Fyock was second in scoring for the Lady Senators last season with seven goals, while Davis chipped in with five scores.

"We need Sarah and Emma to lead us in scoring," Ovalle said. "We also have some midfielders that can score, which we need as well."

Freshman forward Donte' Allen is also projected to see time this season for the Lady Senators.

"I'm very excited with the players we return from last year," Ovalle said. "And our new players have come on strong during the preaseason."

Davis & Elkins will open the home portion of its schedule Sept. 8 against Ashland University.
