Philip Barbour spikers top Elkins

Philip Barbour defeated Elkins in three games Thursday night in at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Colts (1-0) won the match in four games - 25-15, 25-18 and 25-8.

Brookie Depoy had 12 points, six hits and was 12-for-12 digging, while Haley Stewart had 14 points for Philip Barbour.

Nikki Shriver had 12 points and Morgan Stemler tallied 13 assists for the Lady Colts.

"I thought we played very well," Philip Barbour coach Heather Halfin said. "We made a lot of adjustments from our last scrimmage and I saw some good things, especially later in the game."

Philip Barbour won the junior varsity contest 25-7 and 25-11.

"We had a lot of mistakes and some first-game jitters," Elkins coach Penny Crawford said. "Hopefully we can improve on some things and get ready for our next contest."

Elkins will entertain Lincoln Tuesday for a Big 10 Conference contest at 7 p.m.

Philip Barbour will travel Doddridge County for a tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Colts will face Grafton in the tourney's first game.
