Velma Plaugher

Mrs. Velma Elaine "Granny" Plaugher, 75, a resident of 24 Side St. in Belington, departed this life at 5:56 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Cindy Hart.

She was born April 8, 1937, at Wilsonburg, a daughter of the late Lerlan Dale and Helen Irene Romine Garrett.

Surviving are three sons, Rodney Plaugher and wife, Trudy, of West Milford, Lynn Plaugher and wife, Vickie, of Clarksburg, and Scott Plaugher and wife, Beverly, of Clarksburg; two daughters, Rhonda Zirkle and husband, Ted, of Sutton, and Cindy Hart and husband, Mike, of Belington; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Also surviving are one brother, Dale Garrett and wife, Faith, of West Milford; one brother-in-law, Carl Plaugher of Clarksburg; and one sister-in-law, Sue Cool and husband, Larry, of Morgantown. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews and the entire Hart family, which she loved and treated like she was their own mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by former husband Harold A. Plaugher, two grandchildren, one sister, two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.

Mrs. Plaugher graduated from Victory High School. She worked at Saint Mary's Hospital, Seaton's Nursing Home and then retired from Stone & Thomas in Clarksburg. After recovering from a stroke in 1988, she went on to dispatch for a tow truck company in Webster County then moved on to working at the Webster County Senior Citizens Center. In 1999, she moved in with her daughter, Cindy, and continued residing with her until her death. She was an Auxiliary Member of Belington Volunteer Fire Department and Belington Emergency Squad and cherished each and every one of them. Granny touched the lives of numerous individuals in Harrison, Webster and Barbour counties and will be sadly missed by many.

Friends will be received from Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 to 9 p.m. today and on Sunday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Shelton officiating. Interment will follow in Belington Fraternal Cemetery at Belington.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Ave., Belington, WV 26250. Condolences may be made to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com.
