Elkins resident named princess

Samantha Jo Tallman of Elkins has been appointed as a princess to the 76th Mountain State Forest Festival by Director General Mike Karlen.

She is the daughter of John and Karen Tallman of Elkins. Her grandparents are Paul and Shirley Shaffer and Delbert and Carolyn Tallman, all of Elkins. She has one brother, Jonn, and his wife, Erin.

Tallman graduated in 2008 from Elkins High, where she was a three-year drum major of the Fighting Tigers Band. She also was a member of the track, volleyball and cheerleader teams. In 2009, she attended West Virginia University, where she was a member of the WVU Marching Band.

She currently is a senior at Davis & Elkins College, where she is studying business marketing. She is a cheerleader at D&E, was a member of the volleyball team in 2010 and is a student ambassador. She and her family attend the First United Methodist Church.

Tallman will join 37 princesses and the rest of the royal court descending coronation hill on Oct. 5 on the D&E campus.
